Hiding in the haze at Compton Abbas [EGHA]
I’m part way through my IMC training and really needed the full rating today. Having missed out on a trip yesterday, due to low cloud, we set off for Compton Abbas [EGHA] (or meeting room 1 as we now call it!).
I was routing via the Isle of Wight and Swanage and the mist/haze made it impossible to see the opposite coast as we passed the Needles. Slight feeling of disorientation for a few moments! Then the cliffs came into view and there was something to aim for. Luckily, I didn’t have to hand over to my flying buddy who has the imc rating.
Compton Abbas is difficult to spot when approaching from the south and tried to hide itself behind the ancient woodland although it should stand out, being the highest airfield in England! It was as lovely as always, with a good range of aircraft to watch, a lovely reception and great food as well!
